Kemsurf OS38

Product Category: Anionics

Sodium Alpha Olefin Sulphonate (Sodium Alpha Olefin Sulfonate)

INCI Name: Cocamidopropylamine Oxide

Quick Links

Kemsurf OS38 is an anionic surfactant based on Sodium C14‑16 Olefin Sulfonate, well‑known for its good foaming and excellent detergency, making it highly effective in a broad range of cleaning and personal‑care formulations.

It can be used in many industrial and domestic applications where strong detergency and wetting properties are required, including household cleaners, textile processes, personal‑care foaming products, and general industrial cleaning systems.

This particular grade of Kemsurf OS38 has been developed to improve cold‑storage stability, helping to reduce separation at low temperatures—a known behavior of alpha‑olefin sulfonate systems—while allowing the product to be restored easily with agitation.

Key Features

  • High solubility compared to dodecylbenzenesulphonates and alkyl sulphates, due to the hydroxy group and unsaturated alkenyl links.

  • Improved cold‑storage stability, helping reduce low‑temperature separation.

  • Excellent chemical stability in strong acidic and alkaline formulations.

Applications

Kemsurf OS38 is used in a wide range of industrial, domestic, and personal‑care applications, including:

Liquid Hand Soap
– Provides strong foaming and effective cleansing for rinse‑off products.

Foaming Agent for Personal‑Care Formulations
- Offering stable, high‑quality foam.

Detergent for Household and Toiletry Products
- Where good detergency and wetting efficiency are required.

Emulsion polymerisation
- Suitable for systems such as Styrene/Butyl Acrylate and Vinyl Acetate.

Shampoos
- Providing effective cleaning without stripping natural oils; when used with betaines (Amphokem CAB) or amine oxides (Lansurf CAO), it can match the performance of alkyl sulfates like Kemsurf DSA.

Liquid Dishwashing Detergents
- Delivering strong foam and degreasing performance.

Firefighting Foams
- Due to its strong and stable foaming characteristics.
