Kemectant EB3

Dispersing Agents for Aqueous Systems

Quick Links

Kemectant EB3 is a nonionic humectant designed for use in aqueous coatings, paints, inks, and other water‑based formulations. It is particularly effective in protecting against in‑can drying by maintaining a moist air gap at the top of the container, helping to preserve formulation stability during storage. Kemectant EB3 also assists in controlling moisture retention and evaporation rate, improving open time, flow, and application performance. In addition, it exhibits properties that help enhance the freeze–thaw stability of aqueous pigment dispersions.

Kemectant EB3 shows good compatibility with a wide range of binders and formulation additives and is suitable for decorative, industrial, and specialist water‑borne systems.

Key Features

  • Low surface and interfacial tension, supporting improved wetting and formulation stability.

  • Provides steric and electrostatic stabilisation, contributing to enhanced dispersion and freeze–thaw stability

  • Good mechanical (shear) stability and electrolyte stability, ensuring robust performance during processing and storage.

Applications

Aqueous Systems
- Designed for use in a wide range of aqueous systems to improve moisture retention, compatibility, and formulation stability, particularly where in‑can drying and freeze–thaw performance are critical.

Paints & Coatings
- Used in water‑based paint and coating formulations to prevent in‑can drying by maintaining a moist air gap, while improving open time, application properties, and storage stability.

Pigment Dispersions
- Acts as a powerful processing aid in aqueous pigment dispersions, improving freeze–thaw stability (–17 °C over 6 cycles), enhancing compatibility, and supporting stable high‑solids formulations.

Inks
- Suitable for water‑based ink systems to control evaporation rate, prevent drying during storage and processing, and maintain consistent performance.

High Solids Pigment Concentrates
- Enables efficient processing of inorganic pigment formulations up to 70% using high‑speed/high‑shear mixing, and organic pigment formulations up to 55% with bead mill or triple‑roll mill processing.
